caitY Johnson, Certified Massage Therapist

Movement is life. Life is a process. Improve the quality of the process and you improve the quality of life itself.
— Moshe Feldenkrais

I am a Licensed and Certified Massage Therapist from New York, and have been practicing body work in the San Francisco Bay area since 2014.  I also hold an MFA in Dance Performance, Pedagogy and Choreography from Smith College in Northampton, MA.  My love of deep body work stems from a fascination with movement and body mechanics, and has been enhanced by further study of human potential at the Esalen Institute, the Flow Genome Project, and with Revolution in Motion training.

Integrative Therapeutic Massage

My approach to myotherapy integrates deep tissue structural bodywork with the flowing, profoundly relaxing techniques of Esalen® Massage. The integration of these healing modalities, along with traditional Swedish massage and Trigger Point Therapy, allows me to access the body's deeper soft tissue layers, unbinding habitually compressed areas of tension and returning fluid exchange and energy flow. Chronic tension patterns in the body release by softening and re-organizing,  replenishing living tissues with blood, lymph and energy.

With full-hearted presence and attention, I aim to bring my clients to a state of deep nervous-system relaxation, which supports the natural ability of body and mind to self-heal.

Caity has a unique and real talent at massage and bodywork...She obviously takes her training and her practice seriously, because she works with incredible awareness and presence. Her deep tissue work will leave you feeling opened and renewed, rather than chewed up and spit out. If relaxation is more your thing, rest assured you will feel peaceful bliss during and after your session...I’ve been a massage therapist for 10 years, and I only let people I trust work on me. I look forward to receiving from Caity whenever I can!
— P.S., client since 2017

benefits of massage

what to expect

For all in-home and studio sessions, I will have a table, sheets, organic oil, and music. You will be comfortably and appropriately draped throughout your massage. While most clients prefer the access to all muscle groups that being fully undressed allows, you should undress to your comfort level. We'll discuss any medical conditions and contraindications, as well as areas of focus and preference.  If you are experiencing a fever, have open wounds or rashes, or are using a topical treatment (such as hormone cream), we will reschedule. Make yourself comfortable.  It is your time for healing, so please communicate- ask questions, voice concerns, or simply allow your mind to rest. Manual therapies have a powerful effect on the parasympathetic nervous system- it is not uncommon to experience a range of physiological and psychological reactions. I am here to support your healing professionally and without judgement.
